Super Useralks_skla_f 'select all' does have the same functionality as choosing nothing by design, it's more of a user-friendly option for when the report is published.
to only select some items, you need to ensure that the selection settings have 'mutli-select with CTRL' on, this is the default setting, then hold ctrl while you select items in the slicer
