When I try to overwrite one of my power bi reports it only overwrites the report and not the dataset why is this? So everytime I overwrite the report it is also overwriting my security settings and I have to reneter the names over again.

Did you not successfully overwrite the old report, but instead created a new report with the same name, so now you have two different reports.
