SSAS Version (Compatibility Level 1400) vs Power BI Version (Compatibility Level 1465)

Morning experts!

I am developing with SSAS (SQL Server 2017) and connecting live with Power BI. Recently, it was released with PowerBI a feature called "Composite Models" wich allows to have tables with "Import Mode" along with "Direct Query".

I tried to do this on Visual Studio (SSDT), but i can't find it. I was digging further....and found that PowerBI uses a diferent version of Analysis Services (Microsoft Analysis Server 15.0.2.61) ... and the lastest version of SSAS, with SQL Server 2017 is "Microsoft Analysis Server 14.0.1000.169".

Digging even further, i found that the underlying "Model.bim" of PowerBI model, there is a compatibility level higher than Stantard Analysis Services wich is Compatibility Level 1465 (The maximum of SSAS is 1400).

So i wonder....is possible to install SSAS with the same version of PowerBI? To get the same features that Power BI has?

Thank you guys!

Cheers,

Eduardo Melo

    HI Anonymous,

Actually, I think it is a standalone version for SSAS which use to deal with 'composite mode' feature for power bi.

I'm not so sure if it will add to SSAS based on Incremental update package.
