SAP HANA DATABASE CONNECTING WITH POWER BI
Hello experts
I have an issue, I am trying to connect Power BI with SAP HANA database
but not able to connect it.
already I have installed SAP HANA CLIENT in my laptop
and when trying to connect and entered the server it giving me the error as you can see the below snapshot
I am already connected with client WIFI.
Thank you in advanace for your time.
Hi AR_D,
Thank you for providing all the details, your troubleshooting has helped clarify the issue. According to your PowerShell results, PingSucceeded = True but TcpTestSucceeded = False, which means your machine can reach the SAP HANA server, but port 30015 is not accessible. This suggests the problem is related to network or firewall settings, not Power BI or the SAP HANA client. Even if the port is open on the server, it could still be blocked by firewall rules, VPN routing, or cloud security group restrictions, or it might not be open for your IP or VPN subnet. Please check with your network or basis team to make sure the port is open and accessible from your machine, and confirm that the port number matches the HANA instance (format: 3<instance>15). You can also try connecting with SAP HANA Studio or DBeaver; if those fail, it confirms a network-level issue. Since TCP connectivity is currently failing, Power BI won’t be able to connect until the port is accessible.
Thank you.

Hi AR_D,
Given that the SAP HANA client is already installed, the issue is likely related to connection configuration or network accessibility rather than the client setup. In Power BI, ensure the server name includes the correct port (formatted as hostname:3xx15, such as hostname:30015), as omitting the port will result in a failed connection.
If your SAP HANA system is within a corporate network, connecting to WiFi alone may not be sufficient, you may need to use your organization's VPN. To verify connectivity, check if the HANA port is accessible from your machine; if it is blocked, Power BI will not connect.
Review the connection mode in Power BI and try both Multidimensional and DirectQuery modes, since some HANA systems support only one. Also, confirm you are using the correct authentication method, as SAP HANA typically requires database credentials rather than Windows authentication.
To further diagnose the issue, attempt to connect to the SAP HANA system using another tool such as SAP HANA Studio or DBeaver. If the connection fails in these tools, it likely points to a network, firewall, or server-side restriction rather than a Power BI configuration problem.
Generally, these errors are most often caused by incorrect port information or restricted network access, so addressing these areas should help resolve the issue.
Thank you.

Hi v-sgandrathi Thanks for you reply.
Let me tell you what are the thing i have done and checked.Hana DB Is on cloud.
I am already connected with VPN
When I tried by entering the server and user_id and the password then I got an error as u can see in the snapshot.I took the help with AI ans pasted that error
and it suggested that check the connectivity using poweshell using the below one
Test-NetConnection -ComputerName 192.12.10.35 -Port 30015
After running this in powershell the out was as below snapshotPinSucceeded : True ----> means my system is able to reach that server but
TcpTestSucceeded : False ---- I asked this one with AI. it said as you can the below snapshot.
Thanks for your time- AR_DRegular Visitor
as per port issue a client raised a ticket to open that port then they checked on opened that port but still not able to connect. the issue is still the same.
