Running Power BI Desktop on Snapdragon X Series

Dear community,

Is Power BI desktop fully compatible with the newest version of Snapdragon X ARM Series chips from summer 2024? The prospect of the new chip setup sounds promising but before getting a new PC I want to make sure PBI desktop can run smooth and without limitations.

Also do you have any experience in having 32gb vs 16gb RAM? The largest models I currently have is around 1,5GB size.

Thanks in advance

Hello @Molin. If you are making a purchase today, irrespective of the chip, rule of thumb is more memory.    32 is the new 16 gb RAM.    Gizmochia.com is running a story published today covering a list of Snapdragon X Elite-powered laptops.  Time will tell.  At a minimum, they will be $$$.

"Over the last couple of months, various PC brands have unveiled new laptops that feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chip. This processor was launched last year and promised to offer impressive energy efficiency, great performance, and advanced AI capabilities. So here’s a list of all the notebooks from various brands that feature this chipset. "

I have installed the store version and task manager reveals it is x64 architecture so will be emulated. I can't notice any difference - if anything slightly better performance than my 3 year old core i7.

I have 32GB of RAM. At the moment not large datasets but I can trial it if you want. I do have some quite big ones that take about 30mins to load on my old machine.

Sounds very promising. Would be great to hear how the machine is performing on bigger datasets but no rush.

Thanks you for the quick response.

Just ran on my new XPS 9345 Snapdragon and it works fine.

Hi Eddablin,

Thanks for the answer, how big is your datamodels and how much ram do you have in your machine?
As I understand Power BI desktop is not natively build for x64arm architeture and require a bit of ram.
