Thank you All. I ran the report on VM. It worked. Thank you all again for guiding
It looks like Bibitabussum you are stuck with a very common headache in Power BI.
That RootActivityId is just a tracking number for Microsoft's backend; it doesn't tell us the real "tension" behind the refresh failure.
Since you are trying to refresh an Excel macro file, here is the direct "fundas" on why it is failing and how to set it right:
The Real Problem Macros don't run in the Cloud: Power BI Service can read data from an Excel file, but it cannot "run" your VBA macros or click any buttons to update the sheet.
File is Blocked: If you have kept the Excel file open on your laptop while Power BI is trying to refresh in the background, it will throw an error.
Gateway "Road block": If your file is sitting on a local folder or office drive, your On-premises Data Gateway might be down or not having the right permissions.
Direct Solutions to Try:
- Check the Refresh History: Go to the Power BI workspace, click on the three dots (...) for your dataset, and check Refresh History. - - Click on "show" to see the actual error message, it's usually more helpful than the ActivityId.
- Move File to OneDrive/SharePoint: Shift your Excel file from your local drive to the cloud. This makes the connection much smoother and often removes the need for a Gateway.
- Shift Logic to Power Query: Instead of relying on a macro to "prep" the data, try doing those same steps inside Power BI's Power Query. This way, everything updates automatically during the refresh.
- Update Your Credentials: Many times, the password just needs a refresh. Go to Settings > Semantic Models, find your data source, and re-enter your login details under Edit credentials.
Don't worry, this happens to the best of us.
