Roll Forward / Use existing Model for new model
- 5 years ago
Hi Anonymous ,
According to your description, import the new model into the existing pbix. In this case, it can only be connected in Direct Query or Live connection mode.
For how to import models created in visual studio into powerbi, please refer to the following blog:
Working with Power BI Data Models in Visual Studio Code (sqlshack.com)
After successfully importing the model, you can create measure and relationships in PowerBI.
If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information and let me know immediately. Looking forward to your reply.
Best Regards,
Henry

I was referring to essentially creating a copy of the MODEL.bim file for the new MODEL and then changing the DB source for the new model. This opposed to just changing the source of the tabular model source inside the PBIT file..
What would be the easiest way to "COPY the existing model"? Create a new project in VS, copy the code from the existing model and change the source DB name in the code before saving the changes to the code in the new model file?
amitchandak - any ideas here?
