Retain formatting when exporting matrix to excel

My users are happy with their matrix reports showing nifty numbers in conditional formatted cells.

When they export the matrix so that they can do some analysis in Excel it loses the layout.

I know the OOTB matrix is unlikely to be updated in the near future (we still don't have conditional formatting on totals) so I'm looking for a 3rd party visual that can do what the matrix does and also retain the layout when exported.

Do you have any suggestions?

Hi @DataDave

You can use PowerBI Tiles add-in in the Excel to get matrix visual. See: Integrating Power BI Tiles into Office documents.

Besides, I found there is a same feature request posted in Power BI Idea forum, you can vote and comment on it: Allow Table and Matrix Data Exports to Match PowerBI Visual.

Your first link is for a 2015 plug-in for PowerPoint, not Excel. Also, the free/sample version doesn't work.

I've already voted on that feature request (and several others of the same theme).

Thank you for your suggestions.

Your first link says that, instead of exporting to excel then pivoting the data, I should export to PDF then copy paste to Excel. I imagine that this will retain some of the formatting.

Your second link just explains how to export to csv (ie, the tabular data)

The first link refers to yet a third which says to embed a live tile in excel. I haven't tried this one.

Have you used any of these successfully with business users, or does providing an Excel document become another Data Person responsibility?
