Report Builder not refreshing sub reports

Hi all,

I am building a paginated report in report builder which includes a subreport.  When I make changes to the subreport and publish, then rerun the main report, the changes don't appear to update.  Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.  Is there a reliable way to force the changes to refresh into the main report?

Thanks in advance,

Ben.

I've had this same issue. It's usually a caching problem. The main report pulls an older cached version of your subreport.

Could you please try below steps

    • Clear the report cache manually in SSRS
    • Add a dummy parameter to the subreport that changes when you update it
    • Try redeploying both reports together

    Solution Sage

    Hey there!

Here's a couple solutions for you:

    1. Ensure Report Caching is Disabled

Go to Report Manager (if using SSRS)
Navigate to Manage > Processing Options
Ensure that "Always run this report with the most recent data" is selected instead of cached options.

    2. Verify Report Parameter Dependencies

If your main report is not passing parameters correctly, the subreport may not refresh.
    Check if:
The subreport parameters are correctly mapped to the main report parameters.
The data source queries in the subreport correctly reference the updated parameters.

    3. Check Report Processing Mode

If using SSRS, ensure the report processing mode is set to "Live Mode" and not "Snapshot Mode".

    4. Delete and Reinsert the Subreport

Sometimes, the subreport reference gets "stuck."
Remove the subreport from the main report and reinsert it manually.

    Hope this helps!
