Removing Default SUM keyword in Power BI Visuals

Dear Team,

When adding numeric fields to a visual, Power BI automatically applies a Sum function, displaying "Sum of [Field Name]." I would like to ensure that the field name appears without the default summarization, while still retaining the ability to apply summarization when needed.

To achieve this:

  1. Change Aggregation Setting: Click on the numeric field in the visual, go to Summarization and select “Do Not Summarize.”

  2. Use Data Category Formatting: If applicable, adjust the Data Type or format settings to maintain numeric integrity while preventing auto-summarization.

  3. Modify Field Headers: Rename fields in the Fields pane to remove “Sum of” manually.

Could you please confirm if there is an alternative method to achieve this consistently?

@sakula4  You can turn off all default summarization across the model using the new TMDL view.

1. Head over to Options -> Global -> Preview Features -> TMDL View (enable it and restart the power bi desktop)

2. Now drag your model or tables into the TMDL view

3. Using CTRL+F search for "summarizeBy: sum" and replace it with "summarizeBy: none" and Hit apply.

4. Default summarization of sum will nowhere appear in the model now.

Hi @sakula4
You can also handle with this from column tools in table view.
In thia way yow won't need to change it multiple times in visuals:

This approach may result in a loss of granularity, which is not desirable. While summarization is necessary, the visual should display only the field name without explicitly showing the SUM type when added.
