Remove local model after switch to direct query for power bi datasets

Hi everyone,

We have several users who connect to Power BI datasets to build reports. Of late, some of them enabled and started trying out the Direct Query for Power BI Datasets and Analysis Services option (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-directquery-datasets-azure-analysis-...) that lets them add a local model. However, what we've observed is that after playing around with the feature, they decide they don't to use it anymore but are not able to revert back. Is there a way to do so?

To be very specifc, after creating a local model, the connection becomes direct query. Is there a way to go back to the report earlier that was connected live to a power bi dataset?

Thanks!

I was afraid of that. But thank you for the response.

Hi @Anonymous ,

According to my knowledge, when we convert data model from Live connection to Import or Direct Query, Power BI will load all data(Import) or metadata(Direct Query) into data model. This operation is irreversible.
