I want to have the total per year, but not the grand total. How can I achieve this? There are the settings that I have in the visual:

Keep the 'Per column level' switched on under 'Column subtotal', On your 'Year' Column Level, switch off the 'Show subtotal'.

You can follow the below steps and it can be achived via dax measures too.
1. Select your Matrix visual.
2. Go to the Visualizations pane → Format option
3. Expand the Subtotals section.
4 . You’ll see two settings:
4.1 Per row level
4.2 Per column level
--Under Per column level,
5. Turn ON the toggle.
6. Then select the “Column level” dropdown.
7. Choose your Year column.
8. Turn ON subtotal for Year only.
Now, scroll below and turn OFF the general “Column grand total”.
