Hi
I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction?
I am building a model and am getting to the point where Power BI desktop accepts the relationships I have created, but when I start to add fields to a table visual, I get so far, but the table will not accept a combination of two particular fields: raw_forecast[ID_BUDGET] and raw_timesheet[ID_BUDGET]
I have been trying many combinations of relationships including adding bridging tables and am thinking of going into Power Query and just merging what I need, but I was hoping I could both avoid that and learn something at the same time.
Please let me know if you need any further information regarding tables, fields etc.
I should add that the underlying database model isn't mine and I can't change that, but I have free reign in Power BI.
Many thanks
Oliver
It's hard to tell from the picture, but this is generally caused by having multiple active pathways between the two tables. You have to get your relationship directions correct so that you have only a single valid pathway, or change your model slightly.
Hi Greg
Thanks for replying.
Is the behaviour where Power BI accepts the relationships I have specified, but then refuses to allow a certain combination of fields in a visual something that you have seen before?
It surprised me, but I am not the most seasoned data modeller.
Many thanks
Oliver
Hi Oliver,
1. What are the details of the error message? You can click the "See Details" in the visual.
2. How did you create the visual that is broken? The paths are based on the fields you chose.
3. Can you share a dummy sample?
Best Regards,
Dale
Hi Dale
The error message is simply, "Can't determine relationships between fields. Can't display the data because Power BI can't determine the relationship between two or more fields."
The visual is purely a table visual. I am having issues with the same model with the matrix visual, but thought it would be easier to demonstrate the problem with a table visual.
At the moment, the data is coming in from a Filemaker database via ODBC. I will try to make time to create a text file version, but I don't think I will be able to do that today unfortunately.
Many thanks for your help though
Ollie
How is raw_forecast related to OPCO_budget_lookup and how is OPCO_budget_lookup related to raw_timesheet?
