Relationship maps help

Hi all,

I'm completely new to PowerBI. My boss wanted me to create a visual relationship map between the members of our team and who they talk to. I have all the base data available, but I'm struggling with using the tool to present the data. So far, the closest thing that resembles what I want appears to be the Force-Directed Graph, however it may not be the best option for me yet (as I haven't seen anything more suitable).

Sorry for the eye-sore, but for the purposes of privacy, I must blur the names out but I'm hoping it will still give an idea of what I want to achieve.

This mapping is somewhat fine, as that's driven by the data. However, is there a way to:

1. Get the graph to stop jiggling whenever I touch it (I already have "Animations" turned off, yet it still seems to jiggle if I so much as click on a node).

2. Is there a way to create tooltips or a separate section on the screen such that if I were to click on any of the nodes, it will allow me to show certain data fields that I have in my database (e.g. position title, email, and other metadata)?

Cheers all!

An ideal answer I was looking for would be something along the lines of "Network Navigator", which appears to have been taken away from the catalog. Credit to my colleague that somehow stumbled upon that and sent me a template.

Hi @st87 ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft community support

Unfortunately, it is not possible to manually nail down each node in Force Directed Graph. We are only able to change the charge to make the determination.

It is not possible to stop the jiggle of the visuals as they are currently designed.

As @Tahreem24    mentioned go ahead and use decomposition Tree if that meets your need

Also try checking out Social Network graph, this seems to have the features that you were looking for in your second part of the question.

Hi @v-nmadadi-msft ,

Yes the social network tree is structurally the closest I want to what I need, but I don't have pictures (nor want icons). I want to see names, and I don't want to generate an icon with everyone's names for hundreds of people moving forward.

How do you get it so that it will display what's on the example? I created a database with three tables:

1. Table that lists all my team members

2. Table that lists all the stakeholders we have

3. Table that maps which team members talk to which stakeholders.

Basically like this:

st87_0-1734041046951.png

Who do I put in as Parent ID, Id, Measure and Values?

In my scenario, I would have team members talking to the same people, so I think this is why when I tried using the decomp tree (my first thought), it didn't seem to work at all.

Hi @st87 ,
you can remove photo url from the visual of all the nodes, you dont have to wory about providing a photo URL,

vnmadadimsft_0-1734093194599.png

just go to format visual and change link and node settings you will get something like this,

vnmadadimsft_1-1734093244063.png

Once you hover over it you can view thingls like

vnmadadimsft_2-1734093468482.png

You can provide the source in this graph as your team members and the target will be the people they talk to.

Hope the solution is what you are looking for.
Thanks and regards

@st87 You could try Decomposition Tree visual to show the hierarchy and with the help of Tooltip option OR Tooltip Page you could show extra information.

Hi @st87

As this is a custom viz, it is best to reach out to the developer. Honestly though I dont think think you'll get a reply anytime soon. Creating a custom viz takes some times
