Reimport Excel Data Model to PBI
Hi,
Let say I have a PowerPivot Data Model in an Excel Workbook.
I import it in Power BI Desktop, build visualization on the imported Data model and publish it.
So far so good.
Over time, in the Excel Data Model, I update existing table structure as well as add new tables.
How can I update these modification to the Power BI Data model?
When I import again the Excel Data model in the pbix file, if I have existing visualizations, the app crashs.
If there is no visualizations, it doesn't crashs.
In both case, I can't find a way to update the Data model while keeping existing visualizations.
Do I have to do the same update manually to the Power BI Data Model?
Thanks,
Hi AlexBrisebois,
When importing Excel Workbook into Power BI Desktop, once the data model is loaded, the Power BI Desktop file will have no dependence on the original Excel workbook.
So I don't think it is possible to update changes from the original Excel workbook for the current Power BI Desktop file. And yes, you may need to redo the same update manually to the Power BI Data Model in this scenario.:smileyhappy:

once you import the data model from Excel to Power BI desktop, better forget the Excel model, and do all future enhancements work in Power BI, otherwise you end up duplicating a lot of works.
