Refresh failed for users

Hello everyone,

I have an issue wih the data refresh.

I have created a dashboard on PowerBI Desktop. Every week I update it and then I drop it on a sharepoint which I have opened to several users in my company.

They can then go on app.powerbi.com and load the dashboard using the sharepoint connection. Everytime I update the data and drop the newly updated dashboard on sharepoint (replacing the older one), they have access to the latest version of the dashboard.

So far so good !

But for some users, the refresh fails. Lately one user received this message : "the owner of the dataset has restricted the amount of people that can use the dataset..."
Here is the message in French :

And also they have this icon in their workspace

Any idea what could go wrong ?

you should know that we are using the free version of PowerBI.

Thanks

Jules

Hi @JulesMarquis

Here are a couple of steps and considerations to help troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Check Dataset Sharing Permissions: The error message suggests there might be a restriction on the dataset that limits the number of users who can access it. In Power BI, managing dataset permissions is crucial to ensure the right users have access. Since you're using the free version, remember that direct sharing of dashboards or reports is limited to users within the same email domain unless all users have a Pro license. For more details on managing dataset permissions, please refer to this documentation: Manage semantic model access permissions - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

  2. Review Power BI Service Limits: The free version of Power BI has certain limitations in terms of sharing and data refresh capabilities. It's important to ensure that your usage aligns with these limits. Since the issue is occurring for only some users, it might be related to how they are accessing the data or their individual settings.

Hello,

Thanks a lot for your answer !

Unfortunately since I use the free version I can't access the "manage permission" page...

The issue I have concerns people within my organisation, so within the same email domain.

I will check individual settings for users who have a problem with the refresh.

Regards

Jules
