Refresh dashboard based on an excel source
On my local pc, I have:
- An operational data source (so far, I have try an Access Database, SQL Database and flat files)
- An Excel workbook connected on this source with Power Query with checking the "Add this data to the Data model" option.
- A Power BI Desktop Dashboard connected to this Workbook
With the appropriate configurations , should it be possible to refresh the data shown in the dashboard without the prior need to open and refresh the Excel Workbook?
So far I got no error but to see any new data in the dashboard, prior to refresh it manually, I always need to open the Workbook, refresh and save it. Even if there is a Data model in the workbook with connection information to the sources.
I have check many posts and articles of this site but without success.
Any suggestion?
I solved the problem.
Can't find the post that gave me the indication, but the solution is here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-desktop-import-excel-workbooks/
Rather than use the "Get Data" in PB Desktop, uses the File / Import command.

Thanks Perry.
So far I work locally, without publishing the Power BI Document.
I'd already looked at your link as well as this one:
https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-refresh-excel-file-local-drive/
However, I can't get any new data in my dashboard until I manually refresh the Excel file.Any idea about if it it should work or not locally?
Thanks!
