TL;DR: I have to versions of a report in two different files. The one more recent than the other. I also have two computers one with the latest version of power BI desktop the other with the previous version. My problems are two. Firstly the computer with the latest version won't refresh the two different files while the other will refresh.
Secondly the upon refresh of the computer that refreshing works, my data gets messed up. The refreshed lines don't replace the already existing one's resulting in having the same rows multiple times. The same thing happens in power BI service for the latest file after publishing it but now for the other file which was published a week ago. So in power BI service the latest file has wrong data like on the power bi desktop, but the older file has the correct data (even after refreshing) on the power BI service and the wrong data on the power BI desktop. No change has been made to the files whatsoever. The same files are on power BI service and desktop and both files worked two days ago. Help?
Hello,
I have a few power BI files that depict the different stages of the construction of a report that I made importing data from our Microsoft project server. Everything worked well up until yesterday.
At the moment I can't refresh anything, I get all sort of errors like "Container running", "We are encountering errors, pleae close and restart BI", "The connection either timed out or was lost", "The server object is not connected". The funny thing is that I get all these errors at the same time, pop-up over pop-up. It's a clean new install of the latest version of power BI desktop and all the credentials are correct.
The even funnier thing is that the exact same file (coming from the same network hdd) on computer#2 with the previous version of power BI works and refreshes fine. Also the ublished version of the report on Power BI Service refreshes fine too.
And now to the second weird thing, A couple days ago my data was fine and all my visualiations were correct. The same day that I formated computer#1 and used computer#2 for a day my visualizations weren't working correctly. Again I'm talking about the same file. Even though the computer#2 I was using was refreshing correctly while the other was getting formated with each refresh the numbers were even more wrong.
I noticed that the reason the numbers are wrong is because in one of my datasets after each refresh the refreshed data would be added over the current data and it wouldn't replace the old data. The result was to have the same line of data multiple times. I wouldn't have noticed that until I saw that my dataset was about 250.000 lines long! More than twice the original size!
And do you want to get even weirder? Let's go! I published the file on power BI Service because my now formatted computer#1 coudln't refresh, and the same thing happens over at power BI Service, my visualizations have wrong numbers, even though I can refresh fine.
So I went and checked an older file of the same report that has the exact same datasets except the visualizations weren't completed, and even at that file computer#1 won't refresh but computer#2 refreshes just fine. But after the first refresh of computer#2 the numbers are wrong again and on my dataset I get the same huge number of lines with multiple times for each line.
After that I went back to Power BI service and checked that old file that I had published as a test a week ago, the numbers on that file are correct, refresh after refresh and they are correct. And we are talking about the exact same file that on power BI Desktop shows the wrong numbers.
I have no idea what's going on. Help?
I found why I have so many rows in my data and why it's wrong and I fixed it. It was my mistake thank god and it was an easy fix. The refresh problem still remains though...
Hi there,
I seem to have a very similar issue with data duplicating upon refresh. Can you tell me more about how you resolved your issue?
Thanks very much
Ina

Some of the error messages indicate network problem, before you refreshed, did you check the access to the network hdd from compute#1?
