[Refresh Error] Before the data import for finished, its data source timed out.

I have been getting these kind of error messages frequently. I have been researching about this error across forums and trying out the solutions I found, but the error still exists to this day.

Error Scenario

----------------

1. We have 100+ reports in different workspaces. 2 or 3 reports fail with the mentioned error everyday.

2. The failed reports are not the same everyday.

3. I don't get this error message whenever I do manual refreshes. It only happens on scheduled refreshes.

4. All of my reports are connected to ssms.

Solutions I've tried and why they didn't work

--------------------------------------------------

1. Updating the gateways to latest version. My gateway cluster have 3 gateways and I make sure all of them are always up to date, but I still get the error.

2. Check if gateway is online. Yes, I always check whenever I get the failure messages. Each and every one of the gateways in the cluster is online.

3. Failed reports are not the same everyday. So, as some people will suggest to upload the failed report to a different workspace and reupload it to desired workspace again is not an option.

4. Restart the gateway service. I have already tried that. Not working.

5. Extend the command timeout. The timeout is already at it's max (2 Hours). I always get the failure mails 5-15 mins after the scheduled refresh time.

6. Extend the remote query timeout in ssms. Already set timeout to 0. (0= No timeout)

7. Submit a support ticket to MS. Already did that, no use. The support person only suggests to update the gateway in spite of it being the latest version that exists at that time.

If anyone has a solution that is different from the above stated ones, please enlighten me.

Hi @Alicia_Yin ,

Are you using Power BI Pro or Premium capacity?

You can try monitoring the gateway to see what is happening when the refreshes fail.

If possible, monitor the data source also.
