Ragged Dynamic Hierarchy in a dropdown slicer

Hi all,

We are an ISV running a Saas solution. In our solution each of our customer can maintain their own organization tree. We want to provide each customer a Power BI Dashboard of their own data. In order to facilitate analyzing their data we want to provide a slicer in dropdown mode containing the organization hierarchy.

I hit some issues :

  • There is no fixed amount of levels in the hierarchy. Customer 1 can have 3 levels, Customer 2 can have 5 levels
  • There is no even distribution in the hierarchy (also called "Ragged hierarchy"), meaning that a customer with max 5 levels, can have in 1 organizationunit 2 levels, and in another Organizationunit 4 levels.
  • Using the standard slicer in Power BI, I get a lot of Blank values
  • Using the HierarchySlicer in the Marketplance, I cannot create a dropdown
  • Using xViz HierarcyFilter, I am not able to make a proper dropdown

I know we can solve some issues using a matrix, but we prefer to use a dropdown.

I cannot image that I am the only person with the above requirements/issues. Does anyone have an idea?

Kind regards

Dirk

No you are not the only one. This is a well known issue with no solution that is dating since Power BI was invented. Furthermore, the hierarchy slicer that is available on the market and is doing part of the job to hide empty members, cannot be used as a dropdown.

I just wish that Microsoft would start working on this issue already since it was raised many many times.
