RLS with Single Select Slicer

Hi,

I have a requirement to have a report support translations for several languages. The issue I'm having is doing this with slicers that need to be single select. My understanding is that whatever the slicer is selected in the desktop when it's published will be the default selection in the service, even if the RLS has filtered that value out.

For example, I have a dataset that looks like this:

I have placed this column into a single select slicer:

I set up my RLS like this:

When someone from France views the report in the service, the value that will load into the slicer is 'Average', not 'Moyenne'. They will still need to go to the slicer and select 'Moyenne'.

Once they do, 'Average' will disappear as it has been filtered out of the data by the RLS.

However, the desired functionality is to have it be where the correct language initially loads in the single select slicer. So, in the above example, when someone from France loads the report, 'Moyenne' will be what they see in the slicer when the report loads, not 'Average' (even though average is what was selected in the desktop when the report was published).

Does anyone know if this is possible? I've been trying to play around with calc groups in tabular editor but I'm pretty green with that and haven't had any luck...

Hi @kewaynes ,

If you use single slicer, you will need to select the correct one manually and then the "Average" will be filtered.

According to your statement, I think you just need to create a dynamic RLS instead of using slicer.

Hi,

I am no expert on the subject but I think that the custom visual "preselected slicer" could solve this issue: https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/product/power-bi-visuals/insiderscoop1611244107840.powerbi_cus...
Then you just need some way of fetching which language the user is supposed to view. Maybe you can store it in a table along with the user emails?

Thanks for the response to this. I just read the description of this and it sounds promising.

I don't see where I have an attachment option. But all it is, is a single table that looks like this:

That has RLS applied like this:

kewaynes_1-1694105372512.png

And then of course the single select slicer:

I don't think this will work. RLS is enabled. However, the default selection for the single select slicer still appears when the report loads, whether it's part of the RLS filtered dataset or not.

For example, if the user is French but the English is the default selection when I publishe the report, the English will appear even though it's not really a 'valid' selection. The user will need to change to French in order for the visuals to populate.
