RLS in PowerBi Desktop
Hi,
i created simple roles in PowerBi desktop that works perfectly fine after you publish it and you saw from the report from the web (I mean https://app.powerbi.com)
But after testing viewers (the only one with RLS) cant download reports so now I am trying to make this roles work with the desktop app, but I am not seeing a way to add user to roles in the desktop app and if I use "view as user" using a user with a working RLS from the web it doesnt work.
Both me and the user I am testing with have a pro license (demo right now)
All my roles are basically table filter expressions like: [codename] = "x"

To download the report, you must have edit access to the report. Viewers don't have the edit access.
Power BI Desktop is used to define roles and rules.

Testing RLS is done differently in the service and on the desktop. In the service it is sufficient to "view as role" but in the desktop you need to select the role AND "other user" where you specify that user's email address / user principal name.
Please explain what you mean by "download reports"
