RLS and ability to create reports

Hi,

According to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/admin/service-admin-rls   only viewers can have RLS.

"Workspace members assigned AdminMember, or Contributor have edit permission for the dataset and, therefore, RLS doesn’t apply to them. If you want RLS to apply to people in a workspace, you can only assign them the Viewer role. "

and I notice back in 2018

someone raise possibility of allowing users ability to create reports withi their own RLS context.

i..e create reports but still limited to their restricted RLS data.

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Allow-users-to-edit-report-within-their-RLS-security-context/m-p/542362#M55572

Just wondered if there is still no way to allow users to create their own reports but still have RLS.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Thanks

  • Hi po ,

If you have added the user to the RLS role and assigned him the viewer role of the workspace. Then you need to open the permissions management screen of the RLS dataset and add build permissions to the dataset for that user.

When the user opens the report, he can only view the content to which he has access and cannot edit the report. However, he can select "See raelated content" and then create a new report based on the dataset (applied RLS).

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information or the expected result you expect. Let me know immediately, looking forward to your reply.
    Best Regards,
