I am using RLS with UserPrincipalName from the systemuser table. It is not being passed to the opportunity table though. Any thoughts why? There is a Many to 1 relationship between opportunity and sales_team, but i have the cross filter direction set to both. When I try to Apply security in both directions I get the following error.

And warmly reminder:
When creating cross filtering DAX formulas in Power BI Desktop, use UserPrincipalName. This field is often the same as a user's login, for example joe@contoso.com, instead of UserName. As such, you might need to create a related table that maps UserName or EmployeeID to UserPrincipalName.

With a RLS table its not normally joined at all.
Are you able to provide any sample data?
Make your RLS a disconnected table and use the role definitions to filter the required tables.
