Question About RLS and User Access in Power BI

I have created Row-Level Security (RLS) roles in Power BI Desktop and published my report to a workspace. I also linked the users’ emails to the roles in the dataset Security settings.

I want to confirm:

  • When these users log in to Power BI, will they automatically see only their assigned data based on the roles?

  • Do these users need Power BI Pro licenses for the roles to apply, or can they view the filtered data without Pro?

  • If I want to embed this report in an HTML dashboard, will the roles still work for users without Pro licenses, or do I need Power BI Premium / Embedded?

I want to ensure that each user sees only their own company’s data securely.

    • answer: Roles have nothing to do with licenses, the license is needed to enjoy sharing

    • If I want to embed this report in an HTML dashboard, will the roles still work for users without Pro licenses, or do I need Power BI Premium / Embedded?: See answer above
