Query about Licensing for Our Custom Visual - Seeking Clarity!

Hi

I hope you're all doing well. We have recently come across a fantastic custom visual that we believe would greatly enhance our reporting capabilities, and we're excited to explore the possibilities it offers. However, we find ourselves in a bit of a licensing dilemma and are seeking some guidance from our knowledgeable community.

Here's the situation: We have identified a custom visual that we are keen on purchasing, but we're uncertain about how the licensing works. We currently have five users within our organization who are interested in using this custom visual. To ensure a smooth and cost-effective process, we have some important questions regarding the licensing structure:

  1. Pay Per User or Tenant's Administrator Account? We're curious if the licensing for this custom visual requires us to pay per user, or if it's possible to use a tenant account to purchase the license. What would be the most practical and cost-effective approach?

  2. Sharing the Visual: Once we acquire the licenses, we intend to create and publish reports to Power BI service for our users to access. How does the licensing affect sharing these reports? Are there any restrictions or considerations we should be aware of?

.

Thank you in advance for your support and expertise.

Hi @Anonymous .

Before you decide to purchase a Power BI license, there are a few things that need to be explained to you in advance.

1. Power BI licenses are divided into capacity-based and user-based. Most of the custom visual objects are free to use, but to create reports and share them with others, you need to purchase a user-based license. The paid user-based licenses are divided into Power BI Pro license and Power BI Premium Per user, the difference is that PPU license has part of the Power BI Premium features. the price of PPU is higher than that of Pro, you can check it out:

2. If you want to use more Power BI features and other free users in the organization can also access your reports, you can purchase Power BI Premium (P SKU), you can see:

For how to purchase license in Power BI,you may refer to :

If you're a global administrator or billing administrator, go to Power BI licensing for your organization.

Hope it helps!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Custom visual seems to have no restrictions on licenses, almost for share
