Q&A native language for selecting visual

When using Power BI desktop you cannot ask for a type of visual in native language. It's only working when one uses the english name.

Visual Type English Q&A keyword Dutch Q&A keyword

  • Hi Arnoh

That’s correct — Power BI Q&A currently recognizes visual types only in English. The native language keywords (like Dutch terms kolomdiagram, staafdiagram, etc.) aren’t fully supported for creating visuals through Q&A.

    Workarounds:

    1. Use the English visual names when asking Q&A to create visuals (e.g., “show sales by region as a column chart”).

    2. After the visual is created, you can rename titles, labels, and fields in your preferred language.

    3. You can also vote or submit feedback on the Power BI Ideas forum to request native-language support for visual types in Q&A:

Hopefully Microsoft will expand multilingual support for Q&A visuals in the future.

    Hi Arnoh

  • In Power BI Desktop, the Q&A feature usually only recognizes English names for visual types. So if you try native language (for example, Dutch) visual names, it won’t automatically switch the visual type.

    For example:

    • Typing “bar chart” creates a bar chart.

    • Typing “staafdiagram” does not create a bar chart (unless Power BI is updated to support Dutch keywords for visuals).

To get the right visual, always use the English keywords listed:

    • column chart

    • bar chart

    • line chart

    • pie chart

    • donut chart

    • table

    • card

    • map

    • matrix

    • scatter chart

    • funnel chart

    • gauge

    • KPI

Native language support for visual selection is not yet standard in Power BI Q&A; use English visual names for best results. If more languages are supported in future updates, visual keywords in those languages may work too.
