Hi PBI folks,
I just started my journey in Power BI. I have a migration project from Tableau into building it into Power BI.
The data model in Tableau is a live connection consisting of fact table and dimension tables which is Live - embedded in workbook.
How do i approach the same concept in Power BI? The source is snowflake.
Desired outcome: Published dataset in Power BI that has a real time update.
@amitchandak is there a source that documents the steps to publish a dataset as a live connection and can be used that dataset for other users to use as well?
@cruzp , if the user has access to the workspace or dataset, they can use it in their report as a source
one example
@cruzp , In power bi, we have a direct query similar to live, and the direct query is not supported for Excel. Only import mode is supported for that

@amitchandak how do i create a published dataset that contains the datamodel built that is a live connection?
@cruzp , In power bi when Direct query means, the query will send to the source.
Live means it will be sent to the dataset from Power BI/SSAS, AAS. Now refresh of data will be dependent on dataset refresh(so it may not be as good as direct query)
Once you publish a dataset file on power bi service you can use that as dataset. Unless stopped by tenant settings
