Publish Dataset

Hi Guys, I have a quick query if someone could help please, I have a dataset created in PBI Desktop , With that help of the data set I have created few more Tiles in the report on Web service, Now I work on a free license, so I cannot refresh my data set in web, So

  1. If I refresh at the desktop level and re publish it, will it over write the reports which I created in web level.
  2. Also I have changed the Report name which is different from data set, Is there a way I can refresh data with out effecting the tiles I have created and pined to dashboard, Because If it over writes I need to re create hell lot of tiles,
  3. Is there a way I can import the Web file to PBI desktop so that I can work on it from now on

This information is very urgent please help

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

1.If I refresh at the desktop level and re publish it, will it over write the reports which I created in web level.

If you publish one desktop report to service before, there should be one dataset ad report in the same name. Once you republish the desktop report, the dataset and report in Power BI service will be overwrite.

2.Also I have changed the Report name which is different from data set, Is there a way I can refresh data with out effecting the tiles I have created and pined to dashboard, Because If it over writes I need to re create hell lot of tiles,

As renamed report, new report and dashboard tiles (pinned from renamed report) are getting data from the same dataset, if we refresh the dataset data, the dashboard tiles data will be updated about 15 minutes by default, but the tile won't  change.

3.Is there a way I can import the Web file to PBI desktop so that I can work on it from now on

Power BI desktop April version provide a preview feature for us to connect to a dataset that exists on the Power BI service. See: Connect to datasets in the Power BI service.

And there is a feature for us to download .pbix file from service, but have some limitations: Export a report from Power BI service to Desktop (Preview).
