Progress bar on publishing?
I know it's totally not like Microsoft to be efficient or forthcoming, but wouldn't a progress bar on the publishing window be useful to know if your project is stuck in limbo or actually publishing at a snail's pace?

You are absolutely right - the lack of a progress bar when publishing from Power BI Desktop to the Service can be frustrating, especially with larger files or slow network conditions.
Unfortunately, as of now, Power BI doesn't provide a visual progress bar - just a spinner and the "Publishing to Power BI" message. There's no way to tell how far along the process is.
Here are some Workarounds that will help:
1.Watch your network activity to see if data is still being sent.
2.Use smaller data models or disable unnecessary visuals/data refresh before publishing if you're testing layout/design.
3.If you're seeing repeated issues with "stuck" publishing, try saving as a PBIX and uploading directly to Power BI Service via the browser.

Absolutely agree with you. A progress bar or at least a "publishing status indicator" would be super helpful especially when dealing with large datasets / slow network conditions. Right now it’s a total black box, and it’s hard to tell if it’s working or just frozen.
Even a simple % bar or a “last activity” message would give peace of mind. I’ve had to cancel and republish more than once just because I wasn’t sure if it was actually doing anything.
