Processing Tabular Model in VS vs MS

Hi

Is there any difference between (re)processing/refreshing the model in Visual Studio via Process Model All and via Process Table and selecting all in Management Studio?

Do you always have to process in Visual Studio or can it only be done via Management Studio?

I am finding that doing it VS takes much longer than MS.

OK, so it seems that you can reprocess the data via MS (Process Database or individual table) only, but you have to Deploy the Solution in VS first.

The Deploy process the "metadata/rules/measures" etc and the processing in MS applies the data.

Thus you can continue to develop in VS whilst the DB/Tabular Model data is being refreshed via MS.

Can somebody confirm this for me, please?

Yes, you can also start refresh via a SQL Agent job etc.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I would have said the processing is done by Analysis Services, so it should be tool independent.
The tool only sends the processing command to Analysis Services.
