Problem with layout of a custom visual
FWIW, after upgrading to yesterday's version from the December version, most if not all of the color and format retention issues that I was having with the Chiclet in PBI Desktop have been resolved.
Resident RockstarThis is not by design. There are two major sources of error for a custom visual.
- Display glitches / incorrect plotting.
This is likely an implementation error or bug by the custom visual author, and it shouldn't be an expectation that the Microsoft Power BI dev team will fix these. - Incorrect persistence / functioning in PBI Desktop / Service.
This could still be some implementation error by the visual author, but there are also known bugs (that I thought had all been addressed, but perhaps not), where customizations to properly implemented custom visuals are not persisted across file saves or uploads. This would be a bug in PBI.
You can submit bugs in PBI Desktop by using the 'Send a frown' option in the File menu, or by opening a ticket here for bugs in the PBI Service.
The forums are a great avenue for discussing issues, sharing thoughts / ideas, and troubleshooting, but they are not the official medium to submit bug reports.
Proper bug reports will receive more attention from the devs than forum posts.

The author of the visual I'm talking about is Microsoft!
The first thing I did when I noticed the bug was to send a frown in PBI desktop. One of your colleagues replied and told me to contact the author, or if the author was Microsoft, to post it on the forums. So I did, and now you're sending me back to the frown option. This ain't working.

MCarmiggelt, I'm sorry for the runaround you got. A couple things:
- I'm not a Microsoft employee (:
- The forums are explicitly not for bug reports and Sandy will agree that being directed here for bug reports is incorrect.
- The fact that a visual has MS authors does not necessarily mean that it's been developed by the PBI Dev team (to my understanding). Even if it does imply as much, I don't believe we're to expect the same level of support for custom visual implementation errors as we are to expect for official PBI products (a dev can correct me if I'm wrong). It can be difficult to determine if an error is due to the specific custom visual or a bug in the PBI products' custom visual implementation.
