Problem locating Spanish municipalities on the Azure map
Good morning,
I'm trying to represent certain Spanish municipalities using a hierarchy of Country, Autonomous Community, Province, and Municipality on the Azure Map. Several municipalities are represented outside of Spain, whereas if I use the Power BI map, the municipalities are located correctly.
Why doesn't the Azure map locate them correctly when using the same configuration?

Hi jafp - Some municipality names exist in multiple countries. Ensure your dataset includes country information (Spain) explicitly.Try concatenating fields: Municipality, Province, Spain.
Try different map layers or check if Azure Maps has a preference for a specific hierarchy.If possible, use latitude and longitude instead of names to avoid misplacement.

In the end, I used the name of the municipality and province, along with the latitude and longitude.

Hi jafp ,
Especially regarding the ambiguity in municipality names across different countries. To further enhance accuracy, especially when using Azure Maps within Microsoft Fabric or Power BI, I recommend the following.
1. Concatenate location fields to provide better context to the Azure Maps visual.
2. Use this Full Location field in the Location bucket of the Azure Maps visual.
3. Set the Data Category of the Full Location column to Place or Address (via Column Tools in Power BI).
This improves geocoding behavior. If possible, use Latitude and Longitude for the most precise location mapping Azure Maps prioritizes them over names.
