Previous week comparison / highlight changes - advice required

I have a report which refreshes as you'd expect.  The challenge is that I have a user that manually keeps a list of items from the report so they can then print it off and compare it next week to see what has changed and highlight those changes.

It's all very manual and I wondered if there was a better solution for keeping track of those changes.

As an example, let's say I have a list of opportunities with a "Close By" date and I'm filtering the list to look at the "Close By" date for this quarter.  Next week the user will want to see what has changed from that list and report on that.  Initially I thought I could just maybe use the status to track it ("In Progress", "Won", "Lost") but actually the "Close By" date may also change or it might drop off the list because a value was changed and we're only looking at the top 10 opportunities.

So far, the only solution I can think of is to dump a copy of the results of the report to a new database table on a weekly basis, then I could somehow use that as the comparison?  Not exactly sure how that would work.  I feel like this must be a fairly standard pattern/requirement, so I wondered if there were any better suggestions before I go down that path.
