Premium Power BI License Not Recognized by Desktop
I started evaluating Microsoft Power BI for a project for my wife's company seven months ago, and at that time purchased a Pro license. This past week I recently returned to the project, and have been working through a book following along with the examples. I purchased a one month Premium license so I could explore some of the AI-assisted options. However, AI Insights is disabled in my Power BI Desktop application. I've uninstalled / reinstalled the Desktop app multiple times. I don't have prior experience with Power BI, so have had Chat GPT assist me with troubleshooting. Nothing so far has worked - my account under app.powerbi.com shows that it is Premium. I tried to create a support ticket, but was blocked by the portal app. I called a US support number, but the automated assistant hung up on me after I explained I was unable to use the portal to submit a ticket. At wits end on how to get this working - an incredibly frustrating two days of effort and don't feel any closer to solving this...
What I've done:
- Fully uninstalled / reinstalled Power BI Desktop multiple times
- Verified that my workspace setting is PPU
- Manually logged into my Microsoft 365 account again
- Checked Power BI Admin and Premium settings
- Attempted to submit support ticket, but portal blocks me and asks for a contract ID
- Called Microsoft support, but automated system hung up on me and directed me to portal to submit support ticket

denkom So are you talking about this?
Try signing out in Power BI Desktop. Although that said, I am signed in with a Pro license only and I those buttons are available to me. I am wondering if there is something else going on. Perhaps this:

Thanks for the response - yes; I am trying to use AI Insights from Power BI Desktop. I tried logging out and back in but that didn't fix it. Yesterday evening I also tried creating a new user and transferring the premium license to that user - that didn't work either.
Your attached image is interesting - what is a non-PPU Premium user? Do I need to purchase a different Premium license?
