Premium Per User Setup - Sharing across Workspaces (Pro to Premium and Vice Versa + RLS)

Hello,

In my company we are currently looking into a mix license structure with X number of roles having a Premium Per User License and X number fo roles having a Pro License.

In here, we are considering creating 2 workspaces for Corporate and each Division (1 workspace for PRO Datasets and 1 workspace for PPU Datasets). Additionally, we consider creating a separate workspace for all content with same split (Corporate + Divisions), as we want to ensure the workspaces containing datasets are only visible to those responsible for the data entities.

However, since we have begun testing we have found some uncertainties that I'm a bit unsure have been fully answered yet, at least based on my initial search, so I hope you can support even on the obvious ones.

Can someone please explain below (somewhat dumb) questions?

1. We tried yesterday to published a report to a workspace, with the report being built on a dataset from another workspace. The report was published to an app and shared with users. However, all users can't see anything in the report, even though that they have had the report shared and are part of the security model - As we can't control security on the workspace for the app, I'm unsure what is going wrong?

2. Can I create a report, connected to a dataset located in a Pro Workspace, with the report being published to the PPU Workspace

3. Reverse to 2. -> Can I publish a report in a Pro Workspace that is built on a Premium Dataset?

4. If we use a central corporate data model, which most reports will be built upon, that is located in the corporate workspace. Considering my issue in 1., what is best practice for publishing reports using this dataset? Is it by creating a PBIX-file and connecting to the data model using DirectQuery and publish?

@SHS ,

If RLS is has been set up , viewers need to have a role

You should PPU data in PPU workspace, else you will not get the side benefit

Premium you will not be able to use in pro

Dataflow -> Dataset (pbix without visual) -> report (pbix using dataset live )

Hi @amitchandak

thank you for your clarification!

for the RLS-part they have been assigned to roles, but believe the connection/current linked dataset is causing the issue so will try and use dataflows instead

regarding RLS, one last question: We have cases, let's say a report that will include both service-related and sales-related data. The report is to be used by both function but with different point of views - and in some cases even with different granularity. We have some users that has a split position, being part sales and part service. Since it is not possible for a user to be in 2 conflicting security groups, is there a way to overcome that?
