Powerbi Component not showing data properly

Hi,

I'm new to Power BI and need help troubleshooting a component issue.

Problem: I have a slicer/filter component that should display multiple product categories to filter bookings. For example:

Booking 1 → Category A
Booking 2 → Category B

Expected: The component shows all categories: Category A | Category B | Category C
Actual: Only one category displays

Key Details:

TEST environment: All categories display correctly

PROD environment: Only one category shows (deployed via pipeline from TEST)

The filters and data are all identical between the two environments.

Workaround: When I add a measure (e.g., booking count) to the visual, all categories appear
Issue persists: After removing the measure and reverting to categories only, the single category view returns

Question: This appears to be a GROUP BY issue. Why does adding a measure temporarily fix it? What's causing this behavior only in PROD? How can I fix it?

Thanks for any insights!

I think i have figured it out.
I have a Date filter affecting all the components of the report. It has the option to select "All dates" and an option to select a custom period.

The issue is related to this behavior :

When i select a custom period and go back the All Dates, the custom dates are not reset properly so the categories are affected by this since they depend on the products included in the date interval.

The behavior was mainly in prod because the report was saved with this behaviour so when i used the reset filters button it went back to this, whereas in the other environments no custom dates were set.

Thanks for all the help !

Hi @rmartini ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.

Please try below things to fix the issue.

1. Reset report state in PROD: Power BI Service --> Open report --> View --> Reset to default. Clear personal bookmarks and re-check any shared/default bookmarks.

2. Select the Category slicer --> Format pane --> Slicer settings --> Options --> Show items with no data --> On.
This forces the slicer to show all categories from the dimension even if the fact is filtered down.

3. Verify relationship direction: Model view --> Relationship Category <--> Bookings should be Single direction from Category to Bookings. Turn OFF “Apply security filter in both directions”.

4. Check Sync Slicers: View --> Sync slicers --> Ensure Category is not synced to a page with a single saved selection.

5. Remove implicit filters restricting Bookings/Category.

6. Edit Interactions: Make sure other visuals don’t filter your Category slicer, you can set them to None for that slicer.

I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.

Regards,

Dinesh

RLS is the most common cause in PROD-only scenarios. Do you have RLS in your Model?

I don't have any RLS no..
Other than that my licence is premium per user and i'm administrator of the environment, so it's also not an issue of access to the data.

I have noticed that if I add a dimension showing the number of bookings of each category, i am able to see all the categories in PROD.. but as soon as i remove this i'm back to only one category showing
