Hi guys,
Just updated to the latest version (June 2025). PowerBi Desktop seems to like hanging when I try and refresh the model. It seems to be trying to launch the authentication window as I end up with a bunch of "Microsoft Edge WebView2" processes, which I have to kill off, then kill off the main PowerBi Desktop process. Please stop releasing new features and focus on fixing the bugs 😞
Ben.

Hi @bhalicki ,
I looked it up in the issues forum and could see that it is a known issue.
You can track the issue here-
https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Issues/Bi-Crashes-on-launch-with-AS-Process-PID-XXXXXX-Has...
Seems like Power BI crashes and the user had to kill the process to get it to shutdown.
You can Up-vote this issue to get more visibility and the team will look into it to resolve or you can raise a seperate ticket on the issues forum if your error is different.
Hope this helps!
Thank you for reaching out.
Hi all,
I tried rolling back to a previous version and that didn't seem to help. Running as administrator didn't seem to help either. I think the webview2 approach is fundamentally broken. The dialog seems to appear behind other windows on occasion, with no way to bring it to the front, so the only option is to kill the process. I really hope MS get this resolved.
Hi @bhalicki ,
I can understand your frustration with the June release.
Power BI uses Microsoft Edge WebView2 for rendering dialogs like authentication prompts. If there's a hiccup in WebView2 Power BI Desktop can hang, especially when it tries to authenticate to data sources like Azure, SharePoint, etc.
You can the fixes mentioned by @maruthisp in the earlier comment, else stick to previous version if its stopping your work.

Hi @bhalicki
You can roll back to a previous version of Power BI Desktop if the latest release is unstable.
From the link :

In general, it's recommended to wait one or two versions before updating, to ensure you're using a stable build.
If this post helps, then please consider Accepting it as the solution to help the other members find it more quickly
Hi bhalicki,
Could you please try the below steps:
1. Try to run the Power BI Desktop as ADMINISTRATOR.
2. Disable Preview Features any related to Webview2
3. Try to reinstall power bi desktop software.
