I have sent a PowerBI file linked to 2 files and one folder on my C: drive. When the user opens the file, there are no data sources visible under Data Source settings (which would allow them to link the file to their own data sources). I am using the most recent version of PowerBI. Any suggestions. Thanks.
Hi @agwalsh1812 ,
Please try the following methods and check if they can solve your problem:
1.Based on my testing, in the Feb 2024 Power BI Desktop, I sent a power BI file linked to the excel on my desktop. When the other opens the file, the data source is visible.
2.Consider using a shared network drive or cloud storage where both you and others have access. Sending the file with another user, the path to the data sources does not exist on the machine.
3.Check if the data sources are listed in the Power BI Data source settings on the own Power BI file.
4.Try to share report in the Power BI service.
Best Regards,
Wisdom Wu

The weird thing about all this is that I sent the same file with the same data sources to someone else in the same organisation and they could see the sources (and were able to change them as I sent instructions with it). So I can only assume it is an issue with her PowerBI setup. It's weird isn't it?
