PowerBI desktop on Mac M1 pro (via Parallels) does not sign in to PowerBI service

PowerBI desktop (x64) worked fine on my Apple M1 Pro (2021, Ventura 13.5) using Parallels (Version 18.3.1 53614) until the latest releases of PowerBI desktop (april and onward).

Problem that occurs is that I can no longer sign in to the PowerBI service. It asks for my e-mailaddress, however it stops working afterwards. It is as if it does not trigger a webview/browser component to verify my account (2FA). It does trigger that when I try to alter authorisations. I tried to change the settings from webview to standard browser, however that did not fix it.

Workaround for me is to uninstall and revert back to PBIDesktopSetup-2023-03_x64. That allows me to give my emailaddres >> opens the browser for 2-factor authentication and signs me in into the Service.

Couldn't find any resources on this aside from a Reddit page where people experienced the same issue. Two questions: Is this a known issue and if yes, when will it be fixed?

Hi. I installed today Sept-23 update of PBI Desktop 64x. Same behaviour as before, but then I found a new option in Security section of PBI Options called "Sign in Experience".
So what worked for me:
- install Sept-23 version 64x
- do not log in, but open File->Options and settings->Options

- scroll to Security

- tick check-box "Use updated sing-in experience"

- Confirm with OK

- Restart PBI Desktop

- Log in with your email

Yes!! Great! I works, after checking the 'Use updated sign-in experience' and restarting it automatically signs me in.

Hi - same issue! Switching off Webview works...but the articles on this support site clearly mention that WebView will be compulsory in the coming days. How do we get this thread noticed?

I'm having the exact same issue, although I've been unable to get any version of Power BI Desktop successfully working on my MacBook Pro M1 w/ Parallels and Windows 11. I have plenty of RAM (64 GB total, 16 GB dedicated to Windows 11). I can install old and current versions of Power BI Desktop successfully, but when I launch and enter my email address as prompted, the dialog box disappears and the Power BI Desktop app hangs. I have to end task and try again.

I noticed in Task Manager that, upon entering my email address, yet another instance of Edge WebView2 launches in the background, but nothing else happens on screen. I have also tried manually installing the latest WebView2 release from the Microsoft site to no avail.

Have you tried to switch off webview in the settings? And use the browser login instead? That in combination with the March version allows me to login. Don't login, go to settings and then the preview features. There you can switch the webview. There are several posts on how to do that.
