I got this error below when I open a a report with direct query:
"The provider being used is deprecated: 'System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.'. Please visit https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkID=272376 to install the official provider."
So I follow the instruction below to install the latest oracle client (64-bit) from this link below.
https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkID=272376
My PowerBI desktop is 64 bits.
However, I still encountered the same error after installation. Does anyone has any idea what went wrong?
Did you find out a solution to this? I am having the same issue, thanks!
Hi,
I installed this "Install Oracle Database Client for Microsoft Windows" and it works. Initially I installed ODAC but still have problem.
Hope this helps.
Hi @SBGoh
You could find some useful answers from the thread below, please try for your case:

Hey @SBGoh ,
I bet you made the same mistake like I did.
When you are at the oracle download page you need to scroll a bit down because the first link is downloading the "xcopy stuff" the second download option (~400mb) is the right one 🙂
If this post was helpful may I ask you to mark it as solution and give it a 'thumbs up'? This will also help others
Have a nice day!

Hi Josef,
I actually installed the same version for ODAC that you mentioned but I still encountered the same error.
I even setup the oracle_home and path in the environment variables.
Can anyone advise what could be the problem? Thanks in advance!
