Hi
i have a customer that does not allow access to data outside the firewall. we currently have a MSAccess system attaching to a SQL Server behind the firewall.
i want to add PowerBI into the mix - desktop version attaching to the SQLServer
i am getting mixed answers from my internal group. i done know enough to push back and get correct answers.
is this possible? can i roll out PowerBI to the customer base? do we need a gateway?
@ebrodie If the SQL Server is on-premises and you want to enable automatic refresh in the Service, then yes you will need a gateway. You might take a look at Power BI Report Server (PBRS) as this is the on-premises solution for Power BI.
thanks for the information
in order to install PowerBI Report Server, i need a premium license. do i need a single premium license to create, and pro license for each user? or do all users wanting to consume the data need a premuim license?
Hi @ebrodie ,
If you publish Power BI reports to Power BI Report Server, you also need a Power BI Pro license. You don't need a Power BI Pro license to view and interact with Power BI reports on Power BI Report Server.
Hope this helps you.
