PowerBI and Postgres ODBC Issues

Has any one had any issues with PowerBI Desktop and using v13 of the Postgres ODBC whereby you get an ODBC error of 08001 even when the connection can be made?

This seems to only be affecting some of our users, but it always happens to them - even though we validate that the DSN is correct, and that they are also able to connect to the same database using tools like pgAdmin.

For reference the database is an AWS Aurora instance of Postgres.

Weirdly, it's not all of the time. If they create a brand new PowerBI desktop workspace, and add in one table it seems fine, but then adding another one (or several) afterwards may show this error. Once the error occurs, you need to restart PowerBI desktop otherwise nothing works.

Best I can work out is that this is normally caused by the database not being exposed on a public IP address, but it most definitely is in this case.

Any thoughts?

    Hi rvaughan

I had issues with ODBC in the past but not like yours. In my case it was the ODBC drive 32 Bits that do not support some query foldings and M Queries, and Power BI service and Gateways don't support the 32 Bits.

Hope this can lead you to something.
