PowerBI Shape Overlay Misalignment on Different Screen Sizes in Profitbase Custom Visual
Hi all,
When using shapes to cover numbers in a Profitbase custom visual, scaling behaves inconsistently. On larger screens, the shapes shift, revealing the numbers I intended to block. I am looking for a way to keep overlays fixed regardless of screen size. Does anyone have a good idea how I can do this?
In this example I have put a border on the shape to identify where it is. Normally, this border is hidden.
Examples:
My resolution:
Larger screen resolution:
Any solutions or ideas are welcome! 🙂

Hey Anonymous,
Quick Fix for Shape Overlay Issues:
- Switch to percentage positioning - Use % values instead of fixed pixels for shape placement
- Enable "Maintain aspect ratio" in visual format options
- Set container to "Fit to width" in view settings
- Use CSS transform: scale() if you can access the visual code
Alternative approach:
- Replace shapes with conditional formatting to hide values
- Or use transparent rectangles with matching background color
Test tip: Check your overlay on 1920x1080 and 1366x768 resolutions - these cover most business screens.
Been dealing with similar issues in our reports. The percentage positioning usually solves it without much hassle.

Hi Anonymous
I don't think that's the right solution to go with, if there are specific numbers you want to remove we should filter them out! Please provide a sample of data and what you would like to remove from the report and we can provide a better solution. Covering with shapes will always cause issues.
