PowerBI Not Finding Custom Connector

Old thread but just had this issue when installing on a new PC
1. Create the folder Power BI Desktop and subfolder Custom Connectors.
C:\Users\Name\Documents\Power BI Desktop\Custom Connectors
It's crucial that the folder is named Custom Connectors, any other spelling will not work
2. Place the .mez-file in the subfolder
3. Edit the security access to Custom Connectors folder, add PBIEgwService
4. Install On-premises data gateway, and name it.
Change the connection folder path to the one you created
5. Edit the settings in PBI, Archive > Options and settings > Options> Global > Security
Set Data Extensions to Not recommended if you're using an inhouse-made custom connector
