Hello! I just started using PowerBi scorecard and metrics in the desktop app. This is a great tool for me to connect to KPIs from different reports in apps or other workspaces. All my metrics are connected to data in other reports, so they automatically update. However, I noticed that some of my KPIs from an app disconnected automatically. I think the app owner published a new version of the same report in the app. I'm not sure if this is what cause the metric to disconnect from the data.
Has anyone seen this issue with the metrics? Is there a way to prevent it?
Hi @Audrenal
This usually happens when the report is republished or replaced Power BI might treat it as a new dataset and drop the metric link. You can avoid it by updating via Deployment Pipelines, which helps keep the dataset stable. If it still breaks, try reconnecting the metric manually in the settings.
If it’s happening often, setting up a Power Automate flow to alert you when metrics disconnect can help.
Hey there!
It sounds like the issue might be that when the new report is added, the data structure isn't staying consistent—things like different column names, missing fields, or changes in formatting could be breaking the connection in Power BI. To avoid this, I’d recommend making sure that any new dataset follows the exact same format as the original.
Another possible reason could be a change in ownership. If the dataset or report owner changes, it might affect access and disrupt the connection in Power BI.
Hope this helps!
