PowerBI Desktop Query Refresh Popup Not showing up

Since today morning, whenever i right click a table in the data pane and click on "Refresh Data", the window that usually pops up (with creating connections, number of rows loaded and errors etc) is not coming up. After a while it looks like the table is refreshed, but only when i hover the mouse over it.

Any help on how to get the popup back pls?

Its still not pushed to my system. but i will keep looking and get back. For now, i still have the issue plus a set of new ones (random lockups, visuals disappearing, slicers and filters acting weird etc)

If you are on the Appstore build, Power BI Desktop will handle this update automatically.

If your installation uses the downloadable installer, than this appies to you, and you

need to follow the instructions below to download and install.

The following Issue has been created and tracks the activity. Once resolved, Microsoft Community Support will update the Issue Status. An Issue also has a feature to add Feedback via a comment, and a feature to add a Vote as a means to show the level of importance by you and the Community as a whole.

You can also download previous versions of Power BI Desktop if your organization requires.

We always recommend that you use the most recent version of Power BI Desktop, rather

than a previous version. All previous versions have the following limitations:

  • Previous releases of Power BI Desktop are not being serviced - you should always use the most
recent release for the latest features and updates.
  • It might not be possible to open files created or saved in newer releases of Power BI Desktop with
previous versions of Power BI Desktop.
  • If you receive a warning when loading a report saved in a newer release of Power BI Desktop, then
save that report in the previous version, you lose any information related to new features.
  • We only archive the English versions of Power BI Desktop.

Select the following links to download this earlier version:

It also seems to lock the data view window operations. I can switch to preview data from other tables, but the footer still shows the row count of the table I am trying to refresh/have refreshed. I also can't get into Transform Data to make a minor change (as mentioned in earlier comments) so I can't Close & Apply to see refreshed row count.

At one point, NONE of the tables were showing any data at all in the data view, though that seems to have mysteriously come back.

As a workaround for my larger models where I need to often refresh certain data sets during the day I have gone into Power Query and unticked the tables I don’t want to include in the refresh. Slight hassle, but speeds up the refresh time.

and unticked the tables I don’t want to include in the refresh

That will be ignored if other queries depend on these.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem.  I thought I was losing my mind when the single refresh page was not showing up.  Thank you for the post so we can follow the issue 🙂

Thought I was losing my mind for about two days.

Same problem.

Fine for smaller tables that refresh in 5 minutes or less, but for tables that take 2 or 3 hours to refresh and never know when it finishes, you cannot close the file and at least I haven't seen an error message if something fails.

A "work-around" I have found is to edit query and change the order of a column or a minor change that doesn't affect the data, Close&Apply, and you get the pop-up.

Same condition observed.  Started about 3 days ago.  I have my IT department looking into it.  Thanks for posting.  I know that I am not crazy now.  It is really maddening if there are errors that cause the table to not refresh since they are no longer visable.  You can refresh the entire data set to see what the errors are, but this can be time consuming if you are only working with one table.

Same here. In the middle of a big project with tight deadlines, taking time to diagnose that my report suddenly stopped updating because of a silent update from Microsoft was not on my bingo card this week. Rolled back to the May version (see link in this thread).

Thanks so much for posting your problem (and all who replied), or I'd still be pulling part my data model to understand what _I_ did wrong.
