Since the new update (feb 2025) , powerBI Crashes continuously. --> every 15 minutes.
It happens to different reports. And I have two different elitbooks with 16GB RAM, and they both encounter the same problem.
This started after the PBI update of Feb 2025. When I look in memory usage, it is high in general (because MS OS update). But tops maybe at 80%.
Even with small datasets and minimum calculations in the report it happens randomly.
Anyone else experiences the same problem?
Solved! Go to Solution.
My coworker and I had to revert to the Jan update. We both crash in every report. It just seems to decide to quit at some point, whether you're applying changes or saving or even just changing your currency type. She has 64GB RAM.
I even tried a simple upload test...I just uploaded excel files I use in other BIs into a new report. No changes beyond what BI does automatically and it would eventually stop responding.
Ask IT to publish the January version in Company Portal. It takes them 3 minutes to do it.
I have this issue since the March 2025 update I installed yesterday. Anyone have a solution? I do not have the *.exe of previous month(s) available anymore.
Same here with 32Go.
Issue is coming to the last released I think.
I updated with the last one, and it worked few days before crashing again.
Have Microsoft acknowledged this problem? It's a nightmare.
For me it happens on 3 different clients, all on February 2025, when I do something that brings up this window (for instance save the file, create or change a relation, change a column format and so on). The icon stops spinning and the app freezes.
Same here, has been going on for the last 2 weeks
I have the same one. problem with 12GB of RAM, occurs when I generate a Dax Table, a Data update, deleting a relationship or anything. Download the January 2025 version!
@AmiraBedh where should I go to mention the problem? I tried to find the right place*.
EDIT: because it crashes so regularly, I save updates frequently (every 10 minutes or so).
After the last crash I lost 2 hours of work, even after saving it multiple times...
PowerBI creates regularly backup files. Check your settings
True I know, also on onedrive history --> hasn't saved for more than two hours (that was a first, after the crashes started)*.

Hi
Rolling back to Jan 25 has resolved the issues - I had a call with Microsoft support to try and demo as there is no rhyme or reason for the crash - typically it didnt crash during the screen share!!!!
I have also had to request sys admin to switch off auto updates of power bi desktop - it was still auto updating even though the Jan 25 was downloaded (this shouldnt happen if you dont download from the web store)
I read that the issue could be due to Webview2 being out of date - IT support updated this for me on Friday - it had updated to March 25 when I logged on this morning and I had 4 crashes in 1 hour - rolled back to Jan 25 - no issues at all since.
These are all the inital trouble shooting steps that Microsoft advised - none worked for me 😞
Follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:
Update Power BI Desktop:
Ensure you are using the latest version of Power BI Desktop. You can download it from the official Power BI website.
Check System Resources:
Make sure your system has enough RAM and CPU resources. Close any unnecessary applications to free up resources.
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager > Check the Performance tab for CPU and RAM usage > Close unnecessary applications.
Graphics Settings:
Open Graphics Settings on your computer.
Add Power BI Desktop and set it to High Performance mode.
For Windows 10: Start Menu > Settings > System > Display > Graphics settings > Browse > Select PBIDesktop.exe > Options > Set to High Performance.
For Windows 11: Start Menu > Settings > System > Display > Graphics > Browse > Select PBIDesktop.exe > Options > Set to High Performance.
Clear Cache:
In Power BI Desktop, Go to File > Options and settings > Options.
Under Global > Data Load, click on Clear cache.
Disable Preview Features:
Go to File > Options and settings > Options.
Under Global > Preview features, uncheck any enabled features.
Check for Large Data Models:
If you have a large number of calculated columns or complex data models, try optimizing them.
Reinstall Power BI Desktop:
Uninstall Power BI Desktop from your system.
Download and install the latest version from the official Power BI website.
Check Network and Firewall Settings:
Ensure your network and firewall settings are not blocking Power BI Desktop.
If you are unable to roll back to Jan 25 the only minor improvement I had - was to do a file save as then overwrite - you can also set the auto save ( Global > Autosave - to every 1 minute so if it does crash it loads your changes from the recovery file.
One other suggestion if you can't go backwards... I was told to clear my cache under Options, Global, Data Load. It seems to have helped.
Installing a previous version fixed the issue. Now the question is until when we have to keep it like that?
do you have a link to the previous January version? This continuous to happen to me and I can't find a link to download the previous version.
Did the rollback to the Jan update solve the issues?
Yes, it did.
Hi Peter,
Is the solution still working for you?
As @thechris07 mentioned the problem reoccurs even after rollback*
