Hi!
I am using Power BI Desktop 2.151.1182.0 (64-bit, February 2026) on Windows Server 2019 with all the latest updates. I have a problem signing in to Power BI Desktop. After entering my login and password, I get the error:
Something went wrong. Please try again.
I have enabled the trace log, but there is no information about the problem. I do not use any proxy in the network.
How can I fix the login issue?
Thank you!

Hi @pashius
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.
The issue is likely that the authentication redirect back to Power BI Desktop is being blocked. Please check that all required Microsoft authentication endpoints (eg : login.microsoftonline.com, aadcdn.msauth.net) are reachable, and review any recent updates or security policy changes. It would also help to compare this server with the working one to identify any differences.
If there are any deviations from your expectation please let us know we are happy to address.
Thanks.
Hi
the same problem. VM - windows server 2019 RDS with all updates.
power bi desktop 2.152.1057.0 64-bit (march 2026)
After entering login and password, and pass MFA I get the error: Something went wrong. Please try again.
it started ~ 3 weeks ago.
On similiar VM- Windows server, 2019 Rds, with all updates, everything works. The servers are in AD domain in the same OU. The group policies are the same.
Checking and restoring system files - same error.
Installing the latest version of Microsoft WebView 2 - same error.
I enabled "Use default browser for authentication" in Power BI settings, but nothing changes. Edge doesn't open during authentication; it just opens the Microsoft login window.
I tried logging in as a new user on the server, same problem.
I turned on the trace log. It contains the following errors:
They appear after I close the window "Something went wrong. Please try again."
They write here that Power BI Desktop is not supported by server systems, although the download page, in the requirements, specifies server 2016, 2019.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Hi @Vitalii4523
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.
@collinq Thanks for the inputs.
Sign-in problems in Power BI Desktop can sometimes happen because of security settings on the server. It’s a good idea to first check that the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is installed correctly, since Power BI Desktop relies on it for the login window. You might also want to see if Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (IE ESC) is enabled, as it can occasionally block authentication pages from loading. In addition, make sure the server can access Microsoft login services such as "login.microsoftonline.com", and confirm that TLS 1.2 is enabled. Finally, review any antivirus or endpoint security settings, as these can sometimes interfere with WebView2 or the sign-in process.
If there are any deviations from your expectation please let us know we are happy to address.
Thanks.

Hi @Vitalii4523 ,
When you state that there is not erro on the trace log - I am assuming that you mean on the SQL Server it is not registering an errror? Is it registering that you even logged in? I am wondering if you are not getting to the Server? OR, do you have other data sources on your report and perhaps the SQL one is not the actual problem? OR, do you ahve MFA required for your userid (although that would probably be prompted in desktop and it is in the Service where you would get an error.
If it is the SQL server then I am wondering about it being an issue with the network?
OR, perhaps you don't have WebView 2 installed? This needs to be installed on the SQL Server for authentication purposes. OR, is the certificate current on the SQL Server? (ALthough that is usually a different error message...) OR, is TLS enabled on teh Server?

I don’t use SQL Server. I just installed Power BI Desktop and WebView2, and then tried to sign in. However, the login still fails.
Two-factor authentication is enabled on my account.
