Hi,
Previously my power bi desktop was running fine, and a few weeks ago it couldn't be opened until now.

After I tried uninstalling and reinstalling power bi desktop several times, and trying possibility of repairing webview2 but still no progress.

Tried opening power bi desktop again until finally saw an error message that appeared and disappeared very quickly, had to be recorded to get the error message.

Following is the error message :

Hi @v-echaithra

My IT team and I have finally managed to identify the root cause of the issue.
My company laptop uses SentinelOne as its security software.
When I was able to run Power BI Desktop, the laptop was still using an older version of SentinelOne.

However, when I was no longer able to run Power BI Desktop, it turned out that the latest version of SentinelOne had been pushed from our headquarters without my knowledge.

Currently, I have downgraded SentinelOne to a previous version in order to run Power BI Desktop, while we await the outcome of the ongoing investigation our headquarters with SentinelOne.

Becuase SentinelOne is beyond Microsoft's control, I have closed my issue with Microsoft support.

Hi @v-echaithra ,

Thank you for following up.

I have been in discussion with Microsoft Power BI Support for several days regarding this issue. We’ve tried installing both the April and March 2025 versions of Power BI Desktop, but the closed PID error continues to appear. Microsoft has collected logs from all installation attempts and is currently analyzing them.

Additionally, I tested the installation on 7 different laptops. These laptops run a mix of Windows versions 23H2 and 24H2, and some are joined to a domain account, while others are not.
From these trials, some laptops were able to open Power BI Desktop successfully, while others encountered the same error. These results have also been shared with Microsoft Support as part of their investigation.

I will keep you updated if Microsoft Power BI Support provides a resolution, or if I find an alternative solution to fix the issue.

Best Regards,

Hi  @gzai ,

Thanks for the update, since you're not using any custom connectors or .NET code, and Power BI Desktop fails immediately after the splash screen, this points to a runtime or environment-level failure, not anything you’ve built. If your issue still persists, please consider raising a support ticket for further assistance.
To raise a support ticket for Fabric and Power BI, kindly follow the steps outlined in the following guide:

Hi @v-echaithra ,

When I click to run the power bi desktop app, a new loading splash screen appears then closes quickly. Sometimes it show and hide quickly in less than 1 second for the .net framework error message as above. I can't click anything in error message.

I don't develop any custom connector or .net lifecycle in my code.

Thanks

Hi @gzai ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

If you're just using Power BI Desktop to load data and this error pops up, it might be a Power BI bug or environment issue.

If you're developing something custom like a connector then it's likely a .NET lifecycle issue in your code.

So can you please share where and when exactly the error appears?

Regards,
Chaithra E.

Hi @ajaybabuinturi ,

Thank you for your reply.

After I tried your steps to fully uninstall Power BI desktop, the issue is still same.

Hi @gzai,
Try with below steps.
Fully uninstall Power BI Desktop (All versions)

  1. Do this via Apps
  2. Remove both Microsoft Store and MSI-installed versions (if both exist).
  3. Delete the leftover folder: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop
  4. Make sure restart your PC before reinstalling.
  5. Reinstall the latest Power BI Desktop (MSI version) with https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494 (Choose the .MSI version that matches your system (x64 for most users). Avoid the Microsoft Store version for now)

Thanks,
